Alvis vs Phoenix - 1st September 2000

My local club agreed to stage a fixture to raise a bit of dosh for Mexico. We managed two teams, loads of free beer and, with a Friday being pay day, a few full wallets - which we planned on being empty by the end of the end of the night. Everything was set up – perfect... enter a force 10 gale and Indian monsoon!

Like true Brits we soldiered on, but by the end a snorkel may have been more appropriate than a cricket bat! The score? Who cares! We raised £200 in just a few hours!

What my brother Giles "forgets" to mention is that he only lasted one ball that I bowled to him! Oh well Giles... younger bro wins this round! However Giles got his revenge through a £25 bet that I would complete the forthcoming Wolverhampton Marathon in under 3hrs 30mins - this bet was foolishly made before I started drinking! Fortunately the cheque was made payable to the Children's Society!
